After experiencing baby loss or a miscarriage, many people find themselves feeling isolated. Even with the support of family and friends, it can be difficult to talk to someone who truly understands what you're going through.
Sometimes, hearing the words "I felt exactly the same" can provide a level of comfort that only someone with lived experience can offer.
That's why Chasing Rainbows created our Pen Pals Programme, a nationwide peer support service connecting people affected by baby loss and miscarriage with compassionate volunteers who have experienced a similar journey.
Support, Wherever You Are
Although Chasing Rainbows is based in Hull, our Pen Pals Programme is available to individuals across the UK.
No matter where you live, support is just a message away. Through email, you'll be matched with one of our trained peer supporters who understands the emotions that can come with miscarriage, baby loss or early pregnancy loss.
Whether your loss is recent or happened many years ago, you don't have to face it alone.
Why Peer Support Matters
Everyone experiences grief differently, but speaking to someone who has walked a similar path can help you feel less alone.
Our Pen Pals are there to:
Listen without judgement
Validate your thoughts and feelings
Offer understanding through lived experience
Help you process your emotions at your own pace
Sometimes it's not about finding the right words; it's simply about knowing someone else understands.
A Safe Space to Talk
Our Pen Pals aren't counsellors or medical professionals. They are compassionate volunteers who offer peer support through shared experience.
There is no pressure to respond straight away, no expectations and no time limit on your journey. Every conversation is led by you and centred around what you need.
Whether you want to talk about your baby, your feelings, or simply know someone is there to listen, your Pen Pal is there to support you.
Support That Reaches Beyond Hull
While Chasing Rainbows provides in-person support throughout Hull and East Riding, our Pen Pals Programme allows us to support families nationwide.
No matter where you are in the UK, you can access compassionate support from someone who understands the challenges of baby loss and miscarriage.
Distance should never be a barrier to finding support.
Part of Our Wider Support Services
The Pen Pals Programme is just one of the ways Chasing Rainbows supports families affected by baby loss, miscarriage and infertility.
Alongside our Pen Pals, we also offer:
In-person baby loss support groups
Pregnancy after loss support
Recurrent miscarriage support
Preconception and fertility support
One-to-one peer support
Together, these services help ensure that everyone can access the support that feels right for them.

Sometimes, one message can make all the difference.
